Welcome to 36 Commuting Solutions

36 Commuting Solutions is a non-profit public/private membership organization working to enhance mobility along the U.S. 36 corridor for today and the future.

According to regional forecasts, the population along U.S. 36  is expected to rise 22%, employment will expand 40%, and traffic volumes are projected to increase dramatically over the next fifteen years.
36 Commuting Solutions works to reduce commute times and improve air quality even as traffic volumes rise.

Whether you live, work, or travel along the U.S. 36 corridor, employ people who do, or are interested in the long-term growth and development of the area, 36 Commuting Solutions is your voice for transportation improvements, commuter information, and multi-modal resources.

What's New:

-U.S. 36 loses bid for funding The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded Los Angeles a $213 million grant to alleviate traffic congestion, which significantly cut down the potential funding left for redevelopment of U.S. 36.  The Colorado Department of Transportation and the U.S. 36 Coalition had hoped to receive funding through the Urban Partnership Agreement (UPA) when $354 million, originally granted to New York City, became available.

Tuesday, April 8, U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary E. Peters announced that New York City, one of the five applications selected to receive funds through the UPA, withdrew its application and would not be able to use the funds it was awarded.  This was a fantastic opportunity for U.S. 36 as the UPA application submitted by the U.S. 36 Mayors and Commissioners Coalition on behalf of the corridor was ranked 6th, with the first five projects (including New York City) receiving funding.

U.S. 36 was poised to move forward should something like this occur.  In a quick and coordinated effort, letters of support from Colorado's Congressional delegation and Governor Bill Ritter were sent to Secretary Peters urging that the funds, totaling $234 million, be re-directed to the application next-in-line: the U.S. 36 application.  Despite the effort, the funds were not allotted to U.S. 36.  Click here for more information about the U.S. 36 UPA application.
