Since
January 2008, the U.S. 36 Preferred Alternative Committee (PAC)
has been meeting to respond to public comments in the U.S. 36 Draft
Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to define one vision for
multi-modal improvements to the U.S. 36 corridor that reduces community
and environmental impacts and that reflects the funding
that is projected to be available between now and 2035. After
starting the U.S. 36 Draft EIS five years ago, a milestone was
reached June 2008 by achieving consensus for the Combined
Alternative.
While
further analysis needs to be completed to test the Combined Alternative
and we still need to define phases of construction based upon available
funding, the U.S. 36 coalition is very pleased to have achieved this
important step to further progress towards building improvements to
the U.S. 36 corridor.
